What an auto accident doctor does
An auto accident doctor focuses on identifying and managing injuries and pain conditions that patients report after a collision. The role is clinical: reviewing your history, examining you, ordering or referring for imaging when indicated, and developing a treatment plan based on what the evaluation shows.
Our physicians and clinical staff practice pain management and musculoskeletal care. That means the evaluation looks closely at the neck, back, shoulders, hips, knees and the nerves and soft tissues around them, and considers other explanations for symptoms rather than assuming a cause.
Why prompt evaluation matters
Adrenaline and inflammation can mask discomfort in the hours after a crash. Patients sometimes describe symptoms that emerge or intensify over the days that follow. Being seen promptly allows a clinician to document findings while they are current and to begin appropriate care if it is needed.
Prompt evaluation is not the same as automatic treatment. If the examination shows that no active treatment is required, that is a legitimate and useful outcome of a visit.
Symptoms patients commonly report
- Neck pain, stiffness or reduced range of motion
- Upper, mid or lower back pain
- Headaches
- Shoulder, knee or other joint pain
- Muscle soreness or spasm
- Tingling, numbness or radiating symptoms
- Difficulty sleeping or moving comfortably
What to expect at your appointment
Plan for a thorough intake. You will be asked about the collision, your symptoms since then, prior injuries, current medications and any care you have already received. A physical examination follows, and imaging may be ordered or referred when the findings support it.
If treatment is appropriate, your clinician will explain the options, what each is intended to address and what follow-up would look like. Care is adjusted over time based on how you respond.
